Moonlit Landscape

A couple of practice shots with the moon lighting up the front range.  I'm getting ready for a few night sky projects coming up and wanted to get my gear back in working order after taking a month off from time-lapse photography.

   Right when I went outside I was presented with the beautiful triangular formation of two planets and a bright star setting behind the front range.  Saturn sits atop the trio with red-orange Mars clockwise, followed by the binary star Spica.  This picture was taken 74 hours before the Curiosity Rover is set to touch down on the red planet in a thrilling Entry, Descent, and Landing.

What if Jupiter was our Moon?

  I thought this was a good video demonstrating just how enormous Jupiter is and actually, just how tiny Mars is.

First Run of the New Telescope!!!

   After a month of sitting on the tripod in the corner of my living room, I was finally able to take my new 8" Celestron out for its inaugural run with partially clear skies and a nearly full moon.  Holy moly!!!  I can't believe how good it is compared to what I've been using, and it hasn't even been collimated.  I spent about a half hour aligning the two mounted scopes and a laser spotting scope and then needed to grab the camera for a half dozen shots before heading to bed.  It completely blew me away.  These are single images taken at 1/250 of a second, not stacks...  I CAN, NOT, WAIT to really get in to using this.

The Bees (pt. 1)

  I went home to Ohio over the 4th of July and got to hang out with my brother and take some pictures of the farm.  Katy started working with bees at their old school and now they have two young beehives of their very own producing delicious honey right in the back yard.  I love bees and am really fascinated with hive behavior.  I hope to have my own colony in the future.

I finally got home from vacation and was able to retrieve a camera I set up shortly after a forest fire was ignited by lightning on the back side of Bear Mountain above Boulder, Colorado.
